Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, S. 143(A) – Interim compensation - Can be recovered as if it were a fine - Failure to deposit 20% of the cheque amount as interim compensation in terms of Section 143(A) as ordered - The remedy for failure to pay interim compensation as directed by the court has been provided by the Legislature.

Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, Section 166 – Appeal – Claimants did not filed any appeal seeking enhancement of compensation awarded by the Tribunal before the High Court - Appeal filed by the Insurance Company was accepted – Appellant-Claimants held entitled to enhanced compensation in exercise of powers conferred under Article 142 of the Constitution.
